To sum up, a good romantic comedy which I enjoyed although I did find the ending to be rather abrupt and unsatisfying, almost as if a couple of chapters of the book were missing at the end. The chemistry between Lane and Cusack who I love, and wept for in this movie is nonexistent. Frankly I was shocked to read so many raves here on the board — till I realized most were from first-time posters who were treated to a sneak preview. Goldberg was first interested in starting this project when he found Cook’s book. He thought it had a lot of humor and started working on getting the film rights. Goldberg worked closely with Cook, sharing all the draft copies with her and asking for input. Even though Cook only made it on set twice she was ”so pleased with what they’ve done. It’s really such a tribute to the book and just a great movie in its own right.”
